The Unsnowy January

WILL IT EVER STOP SNOWING?  LAST WINTER
Our Holiday card last year was a photo of Liam snow swimming through a blizzard.  This incredible storm hit us on December 26, 2010. That was the biggest to be followed by more in January and February  I had so many photos to choose from, I remember it took a while to find the one I wanted to use for our card.

Not so this winter. This winter in NY, we had one snowfall that occurred on Saturday January 21, 2012.  This storm brought a thrill of excitement- just a few inches, on a Saturday-no work or school for most- enough for a reason to buy chips, wine and other treats; and no compelling need to shovel as the temperature rose quickly and in a day or so there were few traces of snow anywhere.

January 2011 was the snowiest on record in NYC.  I don't think this January is the unsnowiest as no one is announcing that anywhere.  Unless I missed it.  If so, one of our readers will tell us.
The temp was 62 on February 1st. Today, February 2, the high was 50 and that was early on-it felt downright cold.
Folks are talking that we are through it now. They say- just have to get through February, then March is spring and April means all the bad weather is behind us.  USA Today featured an article in its Thursday issue about how conflicted we are over this - is it good or bad, are we happy or sad-see link

March has had some of the worst storms.  I remember the ice storm the day before St. Paddy's in 2007. March 16. Yes, we went to the parade and yes, they marched and yes, we watched.

April-  I remember a blizzard on April 6, 1982. We got married two weeks later on April 24. It was 75 degrees. We are not through it yet.  Anything can change in a few weeks.

Liam loves the snow.  Most dogs do. And how sad for TWC and all the folks looking for thunder-snow, especially Jim Cantore- remember his "give me a moment"  see link
